This guide is provided by Veenus Computers – Madurai to help users resolve common desktop display problems.
1. Check Monitor Power
First, confirm that the monitor is receiving power.
Steps
-
Ensure the monitor power cable is properly connected.
-
Check if the monitor power LED light is ON.
-
Try pressing the monitor power button.
-
If the monitor is off, connect it to another power outlet.
Tip: If the monitor LED is off, the issue may be with the power cable or monitor itself.
2. Verify Display Cable Connection
A loose or damaged display cable can cause a blank screen.
Steps
-
Turn off the desktop computer.
-
Check the display cable connection (HDMI / VGA / DisplayPort).
-
Ensure the cable is securely connected to both the monitor and CPU.
-
Try reconnecting the cable firmly.
-
If available, test with another display cable.
3. Check Monitor Input Source
Sometimes the monitor is set to the wrong input source.
Steps
-
Press the Menu / Input button on the monitor.
-
Select the correct input source (HDMI / VGA / DP).
-
Ensure it matches the port connected to your desktop.
4. Test with Another Monitor
To determine whether the problem is with the monitor or computer:
Steps
-
Connect your desktop to another monitor.
-
If the display works, your original monitor may be faulty.
-
If the problem continues, the issue may be inside the desktop system.
5. Check RAM Connection
Loose RAM modules can prevent the system from displaying output.
Steps
-
Turn off the computer and unplug power.
-
Open the CPU cabinet.
-
Remove the RAM carefully.
-
Clean the RAM pins gently using a soft cloth or eraser.
-
Reinsert the RAM firmly into the slot.
-
Turn on the computer and check the display.
6. Check Graphics Card
If your system uses a dedicated graphics card, it may cause display issues.
Steps
-
Turn off the computer and unplug power.
-
Remove the graphics card carefully.
-
Clean the card connector.
-
Reinsert it properly.
-
If your motherboard has an onboard display port, connect the monitor directly to it and test.
7. Listen for Beep Sounds
Motherboards often produce beep codes indicating hardware problems.
Common beep causes:
-
RAM issue
-
Graphics card failure
-
Motherboard fault
Refer to your motherboard manual for exact beep code meanings.
8. Reset BIOS (CMOS Reset)
Incorrect BIOS settings can prevent display output.
Steps
-
Turn off the computer.
-
Open the CPU cabinet.
-
Remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard.
-
Wait for 2–3 minutes.
-
Reinsert the battery and power on the system.
9. Check for Hardware Failure
If the issue continues, the problem may be related to:
-
Faulty motherboard
-
Defective power supply
-
Damaged graphics card
-
Failed RAM module
Professional diagnosis may be required.
